Is January a good time to visit India?

The best time to visit is between December and March when sunshine and temperatures are at there best and rainfall is lowest.

What is the temperature like in January?

On the average, temperatures in Southern India hover around 26°C (78F) with highs of 31°C (87F) in the afternoon and lows of 20°C (68F) after dark.

Further north and inland, New Delhi is much colder with highs of 18°C (64F) and lows of 7°C (44F), although nine hours of sunshine is expected each day.

What are some of the best places to visit in India in January?

  • Rajasthan: The desert state comes alive in January with cooler temperatures, making it perfect for exploring forts, palaces, and experiencing the colorful Thar Desert.

  • Beaches of Goa and Gokarna: Enjoy warm sunshine, beach fun, and the remnants of the festive season in Goa.

  • Kerala: Explore Kerala's lush backwaters, hill stations like Munnar, or relax on the beaches of Kovalam.

  • Himachal Pradesh: Enjoy winter sports in destinations like Manali and Shimla, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

  • Rann of Kutch, Gujarat: Witness the surreal white salt desert and experience the vibrant culture of Kutch during the Rann Utsav.

  • Pondicherry, Darjeeling, Gulmarg, Coorg, Ooty are other places that are beautiful, both in terms of weather and what they have to offer.

Additional things to consider:

  • Festivals: Plan your trip around festivals like the Jaipur Literature Festival, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Losar or Republic Day celebrations for a unique cultural experience.

  • Crowd factor: Popular destinations can get crowded in January. Book early or seek out less-explored spots for a more peaceful trip.

January is a beautiful time to explore India's diverse landscapes, cultures, and experiences!
